Certified to fly drones with the FAA!

Certified to fly drones with the FAA! Monday November 21st, 2016 I passed the Remote Pilot exam Part 107 with the FAA to legally operate my drone for commercial purposes. This was a HUGE step for me and for Joseph Robert Films. There are many people flying their drones around shooting weddings and real estate that do not have the legal right to do so. This is also a liability for the customer who hires them, so be careful who you hire for these jobs. I highly recommend anyone who has a drone to take an online course and pass the test. Even learning how to read a VFR Sectional Chart has opened my eyes to some of the places I thought was safe to fly which actually is restricted airspace. I am happy to be among the first in my area with the training and credentials to fly responsibly and legally. I am also fully insured for each flight I take.

To celebrate I just picked up the DJI Phantom 4 PRO. So many new upgrades on the Phantom 4 Pro. The 1 inch 20 Megapixel sensor capable of shooting 4K/60fps video and Burst Mode stills at 14 fps. They offer a package that comes with a built in screen, however its a 5.5 inch screen and that’s the size of my iPhone 7 Plus, so no need for that. Five directional obstacle sensing means it is extremely hard to crash this thing. Increased flight time up to 30 minutes is another key upgrade. Last but certainly not least, Draw mode. You can simply draw your route in the screen and it flies it.

I am very excited to learn the new features this drone has.   I incorporate it in my creative vision when applying them to weddings, real estate listings and coming soon Spring 2017, golf course fly-by’s.
